The Bible states that a man should not sleep or be in a relationship with another man. But as times change, society changes which leads to the changes in the world. At one point slavery was something that America agreed with, and saw African Americans as objects, not people. If times didn’t change, slavery would still be tolerated in the United States, we would still be fighting the Civil War, fighting for equal rights. It seems that people take things for granted, and over look little things that mean so much to others.
Society has over come so many obstacles already in the hundreds of years we have been here, and it will continue to overcome more as it proceed through life. Society gave women the right to vote in the 1920’s, society saw that the separation of blacks and whites did nothing but create more problems, and society is slowly seeing that denying people of marriage based on sexual orientation is also a wrong doing.
The fight for gay marriage is about those little things people over look. Is it fair to be punished for loving a person of the same-sex? The Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage. Is this a good thing? Homosexuality is illegal in many countries. Leaders punish their own citizens by jail, or even death, for being gay. In the United States, however, many states allow gay marriage. Some people approve of it, but also, some do not. Society also plays a big part in the gay marriage legalization process. I believe that they should have the benefits of marriage like health insurance being shared, as well as retirement. There are many pros and cons of gay marriage in America. There are many perks about it. Gay marriage in the United States can bring financial gain to state and local government. Income from gay marriage comes from marriage licenses, higher income taxes, and decreases in costs for state benefit programs (Gay Marriage Procon.org). The gay marriage right is protected by the US Constitution’s commitments to liberty and equality. If one is all for adopting children, this is a pro. When gay couples want to raise children, they will adopt, which increases the adoption rate. This provides children with stable homes instead of being left in foster care. Also, If one does not allow gay marriage, gays will think they are being discriminated against. Do not forget, there are also cons to gay marriage.
